The Merriam-Webster dictionary, defines grit as “firmness of character; indomitable spirit.” Angela Duckworthbased on her studies, tweaked this definition to be “perseverance and passion for long-term goals.” Duckworth's research has helped us understand how grit contributes to success, academically and elsewhere.
More information about the small group workshop: - participants will be encouraged to bring their favorite books and stories that depict determination (but it's okay if they don't have any to share, yet!) - together, we will explore stories of grit: in books, our own lives, and other sources. - we will do activities that allow for the exploration of the characteristics of grit, including:
a growth mindset (our self-talk in regards to beliefs about our abilities and skills)
resilience (the ability to bounce back)
- participants will receive take home activities to help families identify and strengthen their own grit!
